From Scottish Witch Trials to Appalachian Granny Witches: An Evolution of Witches and their Craft

Katherine will be discussing the infamous Scottish Witch Hunts and what really went on at trials and how confessions were extracted using various means of torture. She will address how and why they were accused and which acts fell under The Witch Craft act of 1563 that meant certain death. She will walk through an execution and paint a picture of what it was like for a convicted witch. She will then relate how and why so many people fled Scotland during this time and resettled in the North Carolina mountains and then on to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. How that healing ways were passed down through the generations to women who would become lovingly called Granny Witches when thought to be healers but became feared when their ways from long ago showed a more nefarious side. She will touch on mountain superstition and end with my personal ghost story that inspired her novel, The Mary Luck Tales; Witch’s Curse.
